“God Is…”

Ps 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  KJV

This declaration of what God is to us ought to be very encouraging to each one of our lives.  In light of the resent hurricane and the terrible events that have followed, we need to anchor our faith in what God said He would be to us.  Whatever adversity, however sad, or crises, however sudden, we need to acknowledge today that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.

There are three words that come to mind in this one verse of scripture.

The first word is:

Personal- God is our… You may trust in someone else or something else, but the writer wanted to go on record as saying God is our refuge… God is the one I trust.  My faith is in God alone.  What do people do without turning to God?  Who do they lean on in times like these?  David got very personal once again in Ps 91:2, where he stated: I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. KJV.  There are people who say, “You need God as your crutch to lean on.”  And I say, “You’ve got that right.”  When others are finding that what they’ve trusted for so long has not worked, I am not ashamed to declare that “leaning on the everlasting arms of God “has worked and will work whenever you allow God to be involved personally in your life.

Dependable- God is not only our refuge from forces that would attack us from the outside, but He will be our strength when we are assailed from the fears and worries on the inside.  We can rely on His strength “as if” it was our own strength.  When His strength is working in me, I then become equipped to face whatever test or trail I have to go through.  Thank God we go “through it” with His strength and we come out the other side with the “victory.”  My prayer for you is found in Eph 3:16 That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man. KJV

Accessible- God is also “a very present help in trouble.”  If God was a refuge and strength, but was inaccessible; it wouldn’t do us any good.  But that is not the case.  God allows Himself to be found in times of difficulty.  The word present actually means: “has been found” or has proved Himself to be a very (as if it was emphatically true) help in trouble.  Whatever you are going through today, God is accessible to you.  Eph 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him. KJV.

Today, may this declaration be more than words on a page, but may it be an experience that you have found to be true.

May God Richly Bless Your Life

Pastor Danny
