March 2005 Why does the Resurrection Matter? This March we will be celebrating the cornerstone of the Christian faith, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. But the question is, how does that event affect me 2000 years later? It matters because your past can be forgiven, and your future can be secure. I read a letter from a man who because of his past failures and sins, felt like he had to spend the rest of his life in the “penalty box!” There are many people who regret saying things they shouldn’t have said, doing things they shouldn’t have done and been involved in things they wish they never had been involved in. They are stuck in the past with a lot of emotional baggage that’s tied them down. They feel like they must spend the rest of their lives in a “penalty box.” The resurrection matters because it means you don’t have to be penalized anymore because of you past! Rom 4:25 Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God]. The resurrection says that you no longer have to live in the “penalty box” but if you will embrace Jesus in simple faith and acknowledge that He died for you and rose from the dead on your behalf you can be saved. (Romans 8:9-10) God takes you out of the “penalty box” and gives you abundant life in Christ Jesus. Because He lives, you to shall live. (John 14:19) Jesus was resurrected and came back from the dead to make sure your future is secure in Him. You see, you don’t just need Jesus in your life because you may die today; you need Jesus in your life because you may have to face tomorrow. You don’t ever want to be without Christ in your life as you face each and every new day. The Scriptures state that the Lord’s mercies are new every morning and that as our day so shall out strength be. On the other hand, you have no future without Jesus. But with Him your future is solid, secure and certain. Don’t let the devil hold anything over your head, because Jesus already put those failures under His feet. Don’t listen to his lies, the Word says to submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. In Christ your future is so bright you need sunglasses to see it all. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 That is what is meant by the Scriptures which say that no mere man has ever seen, heard, or even imagined what wonderful things God has ready for those who love the Lord. 10 But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches out and shows us all of God's deepest secrets. (TLB) And now, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
